Simple fish fry with homemade masala powder along with lemon juice and sesame oil. It goes well with white rice, yummy fish curry and rasam.

Ingredients:
Serves 4 to 5
  • 10 to 15 pieces – Fish fillets / Nei meen/ Tilapia
  • 1/4 tsp – Fennel seeds / sombu
  • 6 to 7 cloves – Garlic
  • 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
  • 1 to 2 tsp – Red chili powder ( or add as needed)
  • 1 tsp – Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp – Garam masala powder
  • 1/4 tsp – Cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp – Curry leaves powder (you can use fresh one too)
  • 1 tsp – Lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp – Sesame oil
  • 3 tsp – Corn flour
  • 2 tsp – rice  flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

Preparation method:
  1. Wash fish fillets with turmeric and lemon juice in a running water for 3 to 4 times, set aside.
  2. Take a blender / mixie, add garlic, fennel seeds, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder, curry leaves powder, corn flour, rice flour, grind it to coarse powder without adding any water.
  3. Now apply this paste to the fish fillets along with a tsp of lemon juice and a tbsp of sesame oil (If needed sprinkle little water) and let it rest for 30 minutes to 1 hour . Heat oil in a pan, fry the fish over medium flame on both sides till golden brown. Garnish it with onion rings and lemon wedges.

Notes:
  • Always cook fish fillets in medium or low flame, that helps to cook fish thoroughly both outside and inside.
  • You may increase or decrease red chili powder as per your spice level.
  • I used tilapia fish but you can use any variety of fish.
  • You may deep fry or shallow fry fish fillets.
