Manchatti Vazhakkai poriyal

Simple,flavorful and yummy stir fry / poriyal with raw banana, that goes well with white rice and puli kuzhambu/tamarind based curry. Especially when you make this poriyal in manchatti/earthenware pot the flavor will be awesome.

Ingredients:
Serves 4 to 5 or more
  • 4 to 5 no’s – Raw banana/Vazhakkai
  • 1 big – Onion chopped
  • 4 to 5 no’s – Green chilies (slit open)
  • 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup – Coconut grated
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing (optional)
  • Salt to taste
Seasonings:
  • 2 to 3 tbsp – Sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp – Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp – Split black gram / urad dal
  • Fresh curry leaves
  • Pinches of asafoetida

Preparation method:
  1. Wash, peel and grate raw bananas and set it aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan/manchatti, season it with mustard seeds,split black gram/urad dal, green chilies, curry leaves and asafoetida.
  3. Add chopped onions and saute until they reach translucent stage. Followed by grated raw banana, turmeric powder, and salt to taste, mix well gently.
  4. Cover with a lid and cook until the raw banana is soft. Finally garnish with grated coconut and coriander leaves. Serve with hot rice and curry of your choice.

Notes:



  • You may add green chilies as per your spice level.
  • Raw bananas should be mixed gently as it is very thin and easily breakable.
