Cheese stuffed garlic bread stick, Dominos style soft and yummy bread sticks prepared with cheese, garlic and dried herbs.

Ingredients: Yields 5 to 7 bread sticks
  • 1 1/2 cup - All purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup - Warm water
  • 1 tsp - Garlic powder
  • 3/4 tsp - Active dry yeast
  • 2 tsp - Sugar
  • 2 tsp - Olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup - Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 to 4 tbsp - Melted butter to brush the bread
Garlic herb mix:
  • 1/2 tsp - Garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp - mix of dried oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary
  • Chili flakes as needed

Preparation method:

  1. Take a mixing bowl, add 1/2 cup of warm water and sugar, mix well so that the sugar dissolves completely. Then add active dry yeast, mix well thoroughly and let it sit for 10 mins until the yeast is foamy and dissolved. This is called proofing the yeast. If the yeast doesn't dissolve, your yeast is dead. Start again with active yeast.
  2. Add all purpose flour, garlic powder and salt, mix well with yeast mixture until it comes together to form a dough. Add olive oil and knead until smooth and dough is no longer sticky for about 2 minutes.
  3. Cover with a damp towel / plate. Let it sit in a warm place for 1 to 2 hours or until doubled in size. Punch the dough down to release the air and knead the dough for 2 minutes. Now dough is ready to make bread.
  4. Spread pizza mozzarella cheese on one half of the circle. Sprinkle little garlic herb mix on top of the cheese.
  5. Fold the dough into a semicircle and seal the edges properly otherwise cheese will come out.
  6. Meanwhile place a parchment paper on the baking tray and carefully transfer prepared bread on to the tray. Brush the bread with generous amount of butter. Sprinkle the remaining garlic herb mix it on top of the bread.
  7. Mark the garlic bread into bread sticks without cutting them fully.
  8. Bake in preheated oven at 350 F/180 C for 25-30 minutes or until you see a nice golden brown color.
  9. Cut the cheese garlic bread into bread sticks when it is still warm.
  10. Serve hot with mayonnaise or cream cheese or tomato ketchup or garlic dipping.

Notes:
  • Don't use hot water for proofing the yeast or you will kill your yeast. It should be like lukewarm milk.
  • If you are using instant yeast no need to proof it, add it along with water and just mix it. But if you are using active dry yeast then you need to proof it and then add.
  • Depending on your type of yeast, your dough will have doubled in size in about 1 to 2 hours. I use Fleischmann’s active dry yeast ( 8 gram packet) and my dough took 1 hour and 15 minutes to double.
  • I kept my dough in oven with light ON it. It worked perfectly well for me.
  • You may add 1 or 2 tbsp extra water for making dough, if you think it is not enough.
  • The baking temperature and time will vary depending on the oven specification and bread thickness.
  • You may replace garlic powder with freshly chopped garlic.
