Moong dal ki halwa

Yummy halwa prepared with moong dal flour/paasi paruppu maavu (store bought) along with sugar, ghee, milk and nuts.

Ingredients: Serves 4 to 5
  • 1 cup - Moong dal flour
  • 2/3 cup - Sugar (or anywhere between 1/2 to 3/4 cup)
  • 1/2 cup - Milk
  • 1/2 cup - Ghee
  • 1/8 tsp - Cardamom powder
  • 2 to 3 tbsp - Chopped nuts (almonds, cashews etc)

Preparation method:
  1. Heat a pan, add 1/2 cup of ghee and let it melt. At medium flame, add the moong dal flour slowly and mix well without any lumps. Keep mixing over medium to low flame until you reach the slightly watery consistency(as shown in the video).
  2. Now add sugar and cardamom powder, continue to mix well until the sugar melts.
  3. Followed by milk, mix well thoroughly and you may add 1 or 2 tsp of ghee in between to bring the shine and perfect consistency.
  4. Keep stirring continuously adding ghee in intervals to avoid drying. After 10mins or so, you will see the halwa becomes glossy, comes together and it no longer sticks to the bottom. This indicates that halwa is done.
  5. Finally garnish the halwa with chopped nuts and saffron if you prefer and mix well. Yummy Moong dal ki halwa is ready.
