Paasi paruppu mullu murukku

Simple and yummy murukku prepared with paasi paruppu flour/moong dal flour and rice flour.

  • 2 1/2 cup - Rice flour
  • 1/2 cup - Moong dal flour/paasi paruppu maavu
  • 1 tsp - Cumins/ jeera (crushed)
  • 2 tsp - Melted butter
  • Pinch of asafoetida/hing
  • Salt to taste
  • Enough water to knead

Preparation method:
  1. Take a cup of water and add enough salt for murukku,mix well and set it aside until the salt dissolves.
  2. Take a mixing bowl, add rice flour, moong dal flour, jeera,melted butter, asafoetida/hing,mix well thoroughly.
  3. Add the prepared salt water little by little and knead into a soft and pliable dough.
  4. Heat oil in frying pan, fill the murukku press with this dough with 1 star murukku hole plate. Grease ladle with little oil and make spiral shape as shown in the video and then drop them in oil.
  5. Deep fry them over medium flame to slightly golden brown. Use paper towel to remove excess oil. Once murukku cools down store in an airtight container.


  • You need to wait till bubbles stop to make sure Murukku is well cooked.
  • The dough has to be in a correct consistency,should not be sticky or too hard.
  • Butter is must ingredient in this recipe since it helps the murukku to stay crispy for long.
  • You can also use 3 star mullu murukku mold instead of 1 star mold.
