Dates Vermicelli Kheer/Dates semiya payasam

Yummy payasam/kheer with no sugar added. Prepared with dates,semiya/vermicelli and nuts.No sugar is added in this payasam


Ingredients: Serves 4 to 5
  • 3 to 4 cups - Milk (I have used 2 %)
  • 1/4 cup - Roasted semiya/vermicelli
  • 5 to 10 no's - Dates without seeds ( add as needed)
  • 2 tbsp - Nuts powder (almond +walnuts few)
  • Pinch of cardamom powder
  • 6 to 8 no's - Cashew nuts
  • 6 to 8 no's - Raisins
  • 1 tsp - Ghee

Preparation method:
  1. Heat a pan, add 2 cups of milk and bring it to boil. Add the semiya/vermicelli and continue to cook until they are soft and well cooked.
  2. Meanwhile, grind dates with milk to a fine paste. Now add this paste to the cooked vermicelli along with nuts powder, cardamom powder and remaining milk. Bring it to boil and cook for 5 more mins.
  3. Meanwhile, roast cashew nuts and raisins in ghee until they are golden brown in color. Add this to the prepared payasam/kheer and switch off the stove and serve hot or cold.


Notes: 
  • If you find the sweetness is not enough, then grind more dates with milk and add it to the payasam. Cook for 2 more minutes.
  • Nuts powder: I ground 3 to 4 almonds and 3 to 4 walnuts to a fine powder.
