In today’s post, I am sharing a healthy and delicious Ellu Kozhukattai (Sweet Sesame Kozhukattai) made with red rice flour. This is a perfect snack for kids and a great recipe for festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi. The sesame & jaggery filling gives a beautiful flavor and natural sweetness. Ingredients Used:
- Red rice flour – 1 cup
- Sesame seeds (white & black) – ½ cup
- Jaggery – ½ cup
- Grated coconut – ¼ cup
- Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
- Sesame oil – as needed
- Ghee – 1 tsp
- Hot water – to make dough
- Salt – a pinch
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Serves: 15 - 18 Kozhukattai

🍽️ Step-by-Step Recipe Instructions (Simple)
1. Prepare Sesame Filling
- Dry roast ½ cup sesame seeds on medium heat until fragrant.
- Cool and pulse once in a blender.
- Add ½ cup jaggery, ¼ cup grated coconut, and ¼ tsp cardamom powder.
- Pulse again gently and transfer to a bowl.
- Add 1 tsp ghee and mix well. Filling is ready.
2. Make Dough
- Take 1 cup red rice flour and a pinch of salt.
- Add hot boiling water little by little to form a soft dough.
- Add 1 tsp sesame oil, mix and cover for 15–20 minutes.
3. Shape the Kozhukattai
- Apply oil to hands and knead the dough again.
- Use a modak mold or shape by hand.
- Fill with the sesame jaggery mixture and seal well.
4. Steam
- Steam in an idli cooker or steamer for 10 minutes.
- Cool slightly before serving.
