Located near Leamington, Ontario, Point Pelee National Park is the southernmost point of mainland Canada and one of the country's most unique national parks. Surrounded by Lake Erie, this beautiful park offers sandy beaches, wetlands, marshes, hiking trails, wildlife, and spectacular lake views

How to Reach Point Pelee National Park

We started our journey from Sarnia, Ontario. The drive is approximately 250 kilometres and takes around 3 to 3.5 hours by car. Although our GPS routed us through local roads instead of the highway, we eventually arrived safely and were rewarded with stunning scenery.

Entry Fee

Adults: Around CAD $10–11

Youth (17 years and under): FREE

The park also accepts the Parks Canada Discovery Pass, making it an excellent option for frequent national park visitors.

Best Places to Visit

Visitor Centre

Start your visit at the Visitor Centre, where you can gather maps, information, and board the free shuttle to the Tip. 

Observation Tower

The Observation Tower offers panoramic views of the marshes, forests, and Lake Erie. It's an excellent place for photography and birdwatching. 

The Tip

The Point Pelee Tip is the southernmost point of mainland Canada. Walking across the sandy peninsula is a memorable experience. Wear comfortable footwear, sunscreen, and bring water, especially during summer. 

Marsh Boardwalk

One of our favourite attractions was the Marsh Boardwalk. This one-kilometre boardwalk passes through one of Canada's richest wetlands. During our visit, we spotted turtles, birds, water lilies, and a swimming muskrat.

Dunes

The Dunes provide a peaceful beach where visitors can relax and enjoy the beautiful Lake Erie shoreline.

Wildlife

Point Pelee National Park is internationally recognized for bird migration and is home to hundreds of bird species, turtles, frogs, fish, muskrats, beavers, dragonflies, butterflies, and many other animals.

Camping

Visitors can also camp nearby and spend multiple days exploring the hiking trails, beaches, marshes, and wildlife.

Travel Tips

• Visit early in the morning to avoid crowds.
• Carry mosquito repellent during warmer months.
• Wear a hat and sunscreen.
• Bring water shoes if you plan to walk to the Tip.
• Allow an entire day to explore the park comfortably.

Point Pelee National Park exceeded our expectations. From the Observation Tower and the famous Tip to the beautiful Marsh Boardwalk, every stop offered a unique experience.
